Raise Your Hand to Bring Equity to Education

The School of Education's on-campus undergraduate programs equip you to launch a fulfilling degree as a teacher. Graduates leave with the knowledge and skills necessary to bring equity to education with a focus on antiracist pedagogy, hands-on learning experiences, and practitioner based learning. We offer high-school dual enrollment courses, minors and majors, and a Child Development Associate program.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM DETAILS

Our Dual Enrollment Program provides seniors in District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and charter schools with an opportunity to earn six college credits in education courses. The program is designed with the intent of exposing high school students to both university-level coursework and the possibility of a career in education.

The Child Development Associate (CDA®) certificate is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education. This program is fully online and self-paced. This undergraduate teacher education licensure program prepares students for teaching positions in a variety of PK-12 public, charter, parochial and private school settings. In each course students are exposed to relevant and rigorous curriculum that advances high leverage teaching practices and culturally responsive pedagogical practices.

Our Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education program is designed to transform your passion for teaching grades 7-12 into a rewarding career. Whether your interests lie in English, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies, we offer specialized concentrations that will prepare you to become a highly effective educator. For individuals without a bachelor's degree, this provides a path to your teaching license.

Undergraduates seeking teacher certification in elementary education should contact an advisor in the School of Education as early as possible. Admission to the university and declaration of a major does not constitute admission to candidacy in teacher education, which is based on academic and related performance criteria.

Earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees through this accelerated bachelor's/master's programs. Undergraduate students may complete up to 3 credits for every 9 credits required for the graduate degree that may be applied to the requirements for both degree programs.

Designed to increase the number of teachers from the District of Columbia, the AU Teaching Fellows program provides full scholarships and new teacher coaching to District of Columbia high school graduates who are aspiring teachers. Teaching Fellows study to major in:
