For the Greater Good

At American University, research goes beyond mere discovery; it embodies a commitment to gathering knowledge that benefits humanity. Our scholars collaborate across disciplines to tackle urgent challenges in science, education, health, and policy. As an R1 research university, a prestigious designation reserved for institutions with the highest levels of research activity, we turn groundbreaking ideas into real-world impact. We pursue research with purpose, delivering solutions that serve communities and advance the greater good.

Turning Research into Policy

At American University, Caroline Bruckner conducts policy-driven research designed to directly inform legislation. Drawing on her experience on Capitol Hill, her work has shaped national conversations on tax policy, including the impacts on women entrepreneurs and small businesses, and has contributed to real legislative efforts.

At the same time, she integrates this work into the classroom, giving students hands-on experience tackling real policy challenges. Through research, mentorship, and collaboration, Bruckner is helping prepare the next generation of policymakers while advancing tax literacy and economic equity.Learn More
