Personal Trainer: Liam Williams
Liam Williams is a Personal Trainer, certified through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), American University studying foreign policy and international security in East Asia and the Pacific. Liam has trained in multiple gyms across the United States and New Zealand, focusing on primarily strength, hypertrophy, and weight loss programs. Growing up playing soccer and lacrosse through high school, Liam is also well versed in athletics and the fitness goals of current and former athletes. Liam has an undying passion for athletics and physical fitness, and continues to share his love through fun, dedicated, and conversational training programs that promote a strong trainer-trainee relationship in order to support trainees in whatever their goals may be.
Working as a Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder (WEMR) throughout high school, Liam has a detailed knowledge of the inner workings of the human body from both a medical and physical fitness lens. Liams training philosophy covers both of these health backgrounds, seeking to enrich the body and mind through gradual accomplishments supported by meaningful motivation and a consistent yet inclusive training program. Having played sports his whole life and been consistently in the gym since high school, Liam understands that improvements are not always linear and strives to develop comprehensive training programs to best suit the goals, availability, and comfort of all his trainees. This approach further stems from his love for the outdoors, and the importance of prioritizing both physical and mental health to achieve fitness goals and improve oneself in a holistic manner.
As a full time student and intern, Liam understands that it can be difficult to find time in one's schedule to prioritize fitness, and offers flexible training availability to best fit the needs of his trainees. Outside of personal training, Liam enjoys backpacking, rock climbing, surfing, writing in nature and spending as much time exploring the outdoors as possible…while still pursuing his degree!
Personal Trainer: Sam Becker
Sam Becker is a Personal Trainer at American University and is a certified personal trainer through the National Center for Strength and Fitness.
Sam has always been passionate about physical activity. Growing up in the wilderness of Colorado, Sam has always been exploring the outdoors and loved outdoor physical activity. Sam also has been a varsity athlete and a martial arts teacher, being closely tied to exercise and fitness for many years, Sam wants to be able to do the sports he loves and enjoy the rugged Colorado mountains for years to come. Sam decided to become a personal trainer, to learn how to maintain physical ability to allow him to continue to enjoy the outdoors.
Sam decided to go into strength training, cardio, and muscle building, which he uses to grow and maintain his physical ability - utilizing his martial arts teaching experience, Sam knows the importance of building a strong foundation before moving onto more intense exercises. Sam’s philosophy is the same as when he taught martial arts, build the foundation and base of knowledge and skill first, then grow and move onto more intense exercise for larger growth.
As a college student with an internship, part-time job, and intense classes, Sam has a busy schedule and understands the difficulty of finding time for the gym among other activities, commitments, and priorities.
Personal Trainer: Liam Safier
Liam Safier is majoring in Health Promotion and a certified personal trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness.
Liam’s fitness journey began at age 15 during the quarantine. With limited activities available, he turned his physical health around by embracing the gym. His passion for personal training grew as he researched training methods to help friends begin their fitness journeys.
Liam excels in strength and hypertrophy training, his personal fitness goals, but has extensive experience in various aspects of fitness. His philosophy is that any goal—whether strength, conditioning, or functionality—is achievable by understanding and applying knowledge of how the body works.
With years of gym experience, Liam has also shadowed physical therapists and worked closely with other personal trainers. Having recently started his own fitness journey, he deeply understands the challenges of entering the world of fitness for the first time.
Personal Trainer: Bella Sarai
Hi! My name is Isabella, but you can call me Bella. I am a psychology major and (undeclared) dance minor. I was inspired to get my personal training certification by my mom who I grew up watching work with her clients. Growing up learning from her and seeing her work with her clients really gave me insight into the job. My goal is to help anyone I can build strength, endurance, and perfect their sport.
Lori Murphy is a Master Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor with American University Recreation and Fitness Center (RecFit). She is a Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. Lori brings over 12 years of experience in strength and conditioning movements and creating fun and functional training plans across all age groups. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Science from Unity College, Unity, Maine.
Lori didn’t play many sports growing up, and didn’t really get into a gym until college. After moving to Washington, DC, she started adding swimming, cycling and running to her fitness regiment and within the last five years has competed in several triathlons.
During this time, she found herself unemployed from a 9-5 desk job and found that exercise gave her more energy which improved her physical and mental wellbeing. She decided she wanted to share these experiences with anyone who was open to making a change in their life.
Lori is committed to keeping up with her daily healthy habits, including being aware of taking the rest time away from training when necessary. She believes that makes for a well rounded healthy lifestyle.
When creating fitness plans for clients and students, she also believes in making sure their hard work includes functional training for daily life and must have an element of fun. She also believes anyone can reach any goal they focus their mind on accomplishing.
Outside of personal training, teaching fitness classes and racing in triathlons, Lori spends her time outdoors hiking, paddle boarding and horseback riding. She also plans fitness and social events with her students and clients to keep them motivated and enjoying all that life has to offer!
Jasmine is a Master Trainer at AU with a BS in Exercise Science from Towson University and MS in Strength & Conditioning from CSU Fullerton. She is also a Certifed Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as a Weightlifting Coach with USAW.
Being a lifelong soccer player, Jasmine suffered many injuries that hindered her play. With limited knowledge to help prevent injuries she became interested in strength and conditioning. This interest led her to pursue 2 degrees in Kinesiology to further her knowledge. She was able to learn not only how to prevent injuries but became stronger and more capable on the field and in life.
Being able to see improvements while playing soccer, Jasmine fully embraced the message she had heard multiple times before that movement is medicine. Since then she has and continues to gain knowledge on preventative exercises, functional movement patterns and programming to increase muscle and power. Jasmine’s philosophy is to detect problems, improve movement, increase strength and enhance overall performance in sport and life.
Outside of personal training and playing soccer, Jasmine enjoys learning about different sports. She has become an avid fan of the Australian Football League. Even further away from physical activity, Jasmine loves watching new shows and movies for hours with lots of stretching afterwards (because of all the extended sitting).
