About the Eagle Access Program
The Eagle Access Course Materials Program (the “Program”) enables students to save time and money by offering access to their required course materials at a reduced, flat rate, cost. Optional or recommended course materials are not included in the Program. Through a partnership between AU and Follett – AU’s Campus Store operator – students can receive digital materials automatically via Canvas and physical materials prepared and ready for pick-up at the Campus Store each semester. The Program ensures that all AU students have their required materials on or before the first day of class, providing a less stressful and supportive learning experience.
How does the Program Receive Course Material Information
Faculty members provide required course material information to the Program and also specify if no materials are required or if materials are available as an Open Education Resource (OER). This information will appear explicitly in the Portal. Students should check with their faculty member if no information is provided.
Program Participation
All students on campus and online (except study abroad, doctoral, and intersession students) are enrolled automatically in the Program when they register for courses. Students have the flexibility to opt out of the Program easily by the add/drop deadline each semester and students receive communications directly, as well as by campus-wide announcements, and targeted in-person marketing, several weeks in advance of each semester to support their Program participation decision.
Customer Portal
The Customer Portal can be accessed via https://accessportal.follett.com/0412. Students also receive direct emails each semester with a unique link for their customer portal. The Portal will specify required course materials as well as retail pricing for new materials for comparison. Materials are added up to and through the first week of classes, and students are encouraged to check the Portal regularly to inform their Program participation decision.
When a student opts out, the opt-out is processed by the university each week on Thursdays, with fee waivers being applied on Fridays. Note, if a student previously picked up print materials, they must return those before they can opt out successfully.
You will see this message from the Opt-Out Portal if you have physical material that needs to be processed/returned.

Course Changes
When you add/drop courses, the course information will populate in the Program Portal overnight for your review.
Accessing Materials
Digital materials (BryteWave eBooks or Courseware) will be available via link within your Canvas, emailed directly to your academic email address, or directions will be provided by instructor on how to log in to the publisher’s product directly on their site/URL.
You will receive an email from Follett if you have physical materials available for your Program, letting you know when they will be available for pick-up at the Campus Store.
Add/Drop Deadline and Program Participation
The last day for a student to opt out of the Program is the add/drop deadline each semester. Students receive direct emails, campus-wide communications, and on-campus marketing alerting them to this important deadline.
- If a student opts out of the Program, they need to acquire their own course materials.
- If a student picked up print materials, they need to return them before they can opt out of the Program.
- Opt-out appeals can be made in writing with supporting documentation to eagleaccess@american.edu.
