Dear AU Military Community,
It is truly my honor to welcome you to the American University community. As veterans and military-affiliated students, you exhibit values such as service, integrity, and leadership that are at the root of who we are as a university. We couldn’t be prouder to have you join our learning community.
American University is a truly unique place – from the rich, global resources of the nation’s capital, to our dedicated and engaged faculty, staff, students and alumni, and our campus-wide commitment to service – you will find exceptional opportunities for learning, engagement, and growth.
While the transition to university life can be difficult for all students, it can pose unique challenges for students who have recently left the more structured experience of military service. AU offers a range of programs and resources to support you in your initial transition and to ensure that you thrive here, both academically and socially.
If you have questions about student life at AU or have issues you need help addressing, please contact AU’s Veterans Services Office or Alicia Marsh, associate director of Veterans Services.
In addition, the Division of Student Affairs hosts a Veterans Services Support Network, which aims to help you navigate AU’s programs and offices to complete your educational objective, and a Veterans Lounge, located in Asbury Building, Room 207, which provides a space for the AU military community to gather for camaraderie and mutual support.
I hope you find this information helpful as you become acquainted with the Eagle community. Thank you for your service, and best wishes for your continued success.
Sincerely, Jonathan R. Alger, President, American University
