What is the Market?
Students should never go hungry or skip meals because they can’t afford enough to eat. To support students who are experiencing hunger, American University offers the Market Food Pantry, providing free groceries and limited personal-care items to all students in need. The Market is regularly stocked to the best of our ability with fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy, and more. The Market is designed as a supplemental source of food, not a primary source.
The Market is solely donation based. Therefore, its resources are limited to the number of items or amount of monetary donations that American University receives directly to this fund. Donations are greatly appreciated as student needs have elevated significantly in recent years. Want to donate? Find a list of items the AU Market needs in the FAQ, or donate now using our Amazon Wishlist.
Over the summer, The Market is open on Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
How do I access the Market?
Every student, incoming and returning, must fill out the Market Registration Form once per academic year, as access resets every fall. To complete the registration in PantrySoft simply click on the orange button at the top of the screen, enter your AU credentials, and answer a few required questions. The information submitted in the form is kept private, and Market access is granted to all students, no proof of need necessary.
Once registered, students may visit once per week during operating hours by checking in with a staff member at the front desk.
Request Market Access
To ensure that resources are distributed as equitably as possible, students may shop once per week and may take one (1) bag for their individual use. Please follow all Market guidelines while shopping.
Students with needs that span beyond the support of the Market can find more community resources under our Find Support tab.
Eagles Helping Eagles: Donate Swipes!
The Eagles Helping Eagles Program is a part of AU’s effort to support students who are experiencing food insecurity. The program’s success depends on unused meal swipe donations from students and is not intended to provide the only source of food for students experiencing food insecurity.
Want to help? Students may donate up to $75.00 of Dining Dollars or five (5) guest meals at the end of each semester. When the donation process is open, which is typically the last week of the semester, information about the process is shared with the campus community. The donation button below is active when donations are open.
