SIS's commitment to fostering rich student experiences inside and outside the classroom extends to our research and collaborative study. Through Global Health Policy & Practice, students have opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate level to engage with our work and grow your own knowledge and understanding of this vital area of study.

Certificate Programs

Offered jointly by the Department of AnthropologyCollege of Arts and Sciences, and the School of International Service, the Global Health and Culture (Graduate Certificate) is designed to build a cohort of students dedicated to cross-cultural work in global health who have been trained in the theory and methodologies of medical anthropology as well as policy and international affairs. In addition to completing required coursework in CAS and SIS, students are required to choose a capstone project that is broadly related to global health and culture.

Prepare yourself to tackle challenges at the nexus of environmental protection, community resilience, and equity. Gain expertise in theories linking environmental change and justice, and develop a foundational understanding of environmental equity issues. Graduates are ready for roles integrating environmental protection with equity in diverse settings like international organizations and NGOs. The program includes both curricular and co-curricular components.

Offered by the School of International Service, the Humanitarian Policy and Practice (Graduate Certificate) prepares students to work in the humanitarian sector. Students are equipped with foundational understanding of the humanitarian field including scholarly, policy, and ethical debates in addition to acquiring relevant professional skills and methods. Students must complete a curricular and a co-curricular component.

Course Offerings

This gateway course exposes students to a range of perspectives and tools in the study of the global environment and global health, including market-based approaches, environmental justice, political economy, and sustainability assessment tools, and how to apply these to specific areas of concern. Students not only gain a firm theoretical grounding in environment, health, and the linkages between the two, but also familiarize themselves with practitioner approaches addressing sustainability and health. Grading: A-F only. Prerequisite: SISU-105.
