Dialogue Across Differences
This program aims to promote and model AU’s key values of respectful inquiry, critical thinking, active listening, and principled changemaking through a series of campus events, programs, and learning opportunities. The goal is to create and elevate a framework that engages the full AU community in intentional work to build the skills necessary to realize our vision of creating an inclusive AU community where ideas are exchanged freely and respectfully. By leveraging campus expertise and existing resources, this program has three core pillars:

Building the Foundation through relationship-building

Building our community, by modeling dialogue across difference.

The Inclusive Learning Series
The Inclusive Learning Series, as part of the Office of Inclusive Excellence’s Dialogue Across Differences initiative, offers learning opportunities for the AU community.
The series will draw faculty and staff into interactive conversations around contemporary realities facing American University students.
The purpose of the series is to address issues that may emerge in the classroom and across campus at the intersections of AU students, the changing landscape across higher education, and social-political issues in America/the World today.
Each knowledge session will include:
- A subject matter expert providing essential knowledge
- A pedagogy/advising expert driving solutions-oriented focus
- Students, centering AU specific narratives
This series is designed to address the institutional work needed to embody Inclusive Excellence with knowledge of the multiple ways in which students are impacted by contemporary inequities.
The learning series is open to all members of AU.
The series, which will be hosted for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year.
