You are here: American University Finance Communications Welcoming our New Sr. Director of Enterprise Risk Management
Communication July 17, 2025
Dear AU Colleagues,
We are excited to announce that Suzanne Roosen will join us as AU’s new Sr. Director of Enterprise Risk Management on July 21.
Suzanne is an AU graduate who obtained her MPA in 2008. Her studies at AU and her work as a Presidential Management Fellow led her to a 15+ year federal career leading enterprise risk management, crisis response, and large-scale transformation across programs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Highlights of her tenure at FDA include implementing a risk-based governance model that strengthened safety oversight of 20 percent of the U.S. economy; building FDA’s first internal consulting office for food safety and nutrition; leading crisis response during the COVID-19 pandemic and infant formula shortage; and stewarding more than $1 billion in federal funding that advanced regulatory compliance, public health, and emergency preparedness.
As Sr. Director for Enterprise Risk Management, Suzanne will be responsible for the implementation of our Enterprise Risk Management framework and leading our risk management, compliance, and environmental health and safety teams. Together, these teams provide expert advice, internal consultation, and risk mitigation services for our campus, which spans 4.5 million gross square feet, 63 buildings, and nearly 100 acres, and serves approximately 18,000 community members.
I want to thank our search committee members Matthew Verderosa, Kevin Taub, Fabiola Fernandez, and Matthew Seklecki; the many campus stakeholders who engaged in the interview process; and Muzhgan Zalmai for all their hard work facilitating the search.
Sincerely,
Michael Scher
Assistant Vice President Business Services
