Dear AU Community, 

The National Weather Service's forecast calls for a possible major winter storm this weekend, with snow beginning late Saturday and the potential for ice on Sunday. In preparation for the possible storm, we encourage all community members to be weather-aware throughout the remainder of the week.

How updates will be shared 

Information and updates regarding AU’s operating status, services, and campus activities will be made via: 

  • e-mail 
  • AU’s website 
  • Social media 
  • AU’s telephone information line (202-885-1100) 
  • Emergency information and alerts will also be shared via the RAVE Guardian app and text message system. Community members are urged to download the app.  

Information about campus services during inclement weather 

  • Dining will prioritize TDR service, including the availability of compostable to-go containers. Depending on staffing, we may operate with a limited menu or adjust service hours. All other venues will open as staffing permits. Full details will be communicated in upcoming operating status decision messages.   
  • University Police and Facilities Management services—including critical physical plant operations and groundskeeping—are always provided, regardless of university operating status.  
  • Shuttle Services will continue to operate unless road conditions deteriorate, and travel is not possible.   
  • Campus Store will reopen when campus returns to Open, regular operating status.  
  • Cassell Fitness Center makes every effort to open during weather disruptions. Facilities Management prioritizes clearing walkways and driveways to facilitate fitness center operations. As a reminder, the Jacobs Fitness Center is closed for renovations.    
  • Student Health Center and the Center for Well Being Programs and Psychological Services will reopen when campus returns to Open, regular operating status.  
  • University Library operations function under 24/7 status. The first floor of Bender Library will remain open for patrons with a valid AUID. Additional services may vary as staffing allows.
  • Pence Law Library operations function under 24/7 status. Current WCL students will have access using their ID cards. 

We will continue to monitor the weather forecast throughout the weekend and will communicate any changes to our operating status, services, and activities accordingly.
