Dear AU Community,  

AU is participating in the Campus Race to Zero Waste, an annual national competition between colleges and universities to reduce waste. The competition runs from now through March 28. We’re officially tipping off our efforts on Wednesday, February 4 at 7 p.m. at the annual Sustainability Basketball Game. Let’s all cheer on the Men’s Basketball team and celebrate sustainability on campus!  

We need support and participation from our whole campus to do well in the competition! 

How you can get involved

• Know how to sort your waste on AU’s campus. Check the signs or review our sorting guides.   
• Decrease your use of disposable plastics. Invest in a reusable water bottle, utensil set, and/or coffee mug for eating on-the-go.   
• Empty and clean recyclables that hold food. Keeping food waste and liquids out of the recycling bins is critical for successful recycling.   

Special Events

In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for special events and offers to promote our zero waste efforts, including:

• Race to Zero Waste Annual Sustainability Basketball Game. Use code "GREEN26" to get $5 off tickets to the game. 
• Network at the Kogod Sustainability Panel. Wednesday, February 4, 5:30 – 7 p.m.  
• Valentine’s Day Crafting. Wednesday, February 11, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  
• Thrive AU Fair. Get involved with campus wellness and food waste reduction efforts. Monday, March 2, 3 – 5 p.m.  
• Mini Move Out. Donate excess clothing and hygiene products. Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 & 5.   
• Office Supply Swap. Clean out offices and supply rooms. Wednesday and Thursday, March 11 & 12.
