Airlie is a 300-acre property that is home to the Airlie Berkshire Farm, Airlie Hotel, and the historic Airlie House. The property was gifted to American University in 2016. Visitors can enjoy the property’s magnificent views, observe the sustainable activities of the property’s fully functioning 90-acre farm, as well as learn about its storied history. For more than half a century, Airlie has welcomed global leaders, heads of state, and diplomats who have convened there for conferences and programs dedicated to social progress, education, environmental research, and public health. Most notable among the myriad ideas to emerge from Airlie was the concept of Earth Day in 1969, which now has become an annual international tradition.
