Facilities Support Services

Facilities Management’s core mission is to provide maintenance and repair for essential systems that keep our buildings and grounds safe and functional.

These core responsibilities include:

  • Structural components (e.g., walls, roofs, foundations)

  • Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

  • Life safety systems (e.g., fire alarms and sprinklers)

  • Surplus Furniture Donations and Requests

Facilities Management handles inspection, testing, maintenance, and repairs for essential systems to ensure buildings are safe and usable. These services are not charged to departments.

To deliver services that are not part of Facilities' core responsibilities, we have contracted with service provider MCS Group Inc. who will offer a dedicated two-person crew.  These facilities support-related costs are considered reimbursable and will be charged to the respective departments and tracked via Facilities Management and Business Services.

Chargeable services include:

Office Moves

The Facilities Support Services team can assist with:

  • Moving or relocating furniture, equipment, and materials across campus facilities, including disassembling and reassembling furniture and modular workstations as needed to support departmental moves and space reconfigurations.
  • Removal and reinstallation of non-electrical fixtures such as doors, shelves, casework, and partitions to facilitate logistics operations.
  • Pick up and deliver materials, supplies, and equipment to and from designated campus areas.

All office and material move requests are considered chargeable. To request this service, complete a Chargeable Facilities Service Request (FSR) on the AU portal or contact 2Fix

Event Support

Events on campus are an everyday occurrence. If you need assistance in setting up your event on campus, our various teams are available to help:

  • Zero Waste, Grounds, and Building Maintenance teams can assist you with utilities set-up, such as additional electricity or water, and the installation of additional waste bins for events.
  • Facilities Support Services team can provide tables and chairs as needed, as well as setting up any pop tents required and transporting flags, podiums, or other special event materials.

All event support is chargeable to the requestor, with the exception of set-up and take-down of additional waste bins. We also ensure that the environment is comfortable for indoor events by monitoring temperature settings.

If you have questions about what additional services and assistance we offer, please contact 2Fix.

To reserve a space, contact University Event Scheduling for more information.

Item Disposal

Facilities Management’s Zero Waste and Support Services teams provide assistance with the sustainable disposal of any bulk or non-standard items. We encourage and appreciate all efforts towards disposing of materials responsibly and therefore will not charge for picking up recyclables that cannot go in the mixed recycling bins. This includes:

  • electronics
  • scrap metal
  • bulk quantities of standard sorted recyclables like plastic or paper

The pick-up and disposal of any bulk trash, unsorted items (recyclables mixed with trash), or items that are not easily recycled will be considered chargeable. This includes broken furniture or the collected contents of an emptied office.

To request this service, complete a Chargeable Facilities Service Request (FSR) on the AU portal or contact 2Fix

Surplus Furniture Donations and Requests

The Zero Waste Office’s Furniture Surplus program allows staff and faculty to redistribute furniture throughout campus. If any faculty or staff member has furniture in good condition in their office or workspace that they no longer want, they can submit a donation to the Furniture Surplus program.

The Zero Waste Office staff will arrange to pick the donated furniture up and will enter it into the Furniture Surplus inventory, where other faculty and staff in need of furniture for their workspaces will be able to request it and have it delivered to their office.

Pickups and deliveries through the Furniture Surplus program are not chargeable. However, if the Zero Waste staff determine that a piece of furniture is not in good enough condition to be entered into the Surplus inventory, the customer will instead be charged for bulk item disposal. To submit an item donation or to view the current available inventory, see the Furniture Surplus page.
