In addition to applying to American University, admission to the Dance major requires an audition. We offer both in-person and remote auditions. The on-campus, in-person audition will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Remote auditions must be submitted at the time of application to AU. 

Applicants applying Early Action or Early Decision I should submit a remote audition.

Applicants applying Early Decision II or Regular decision may select either an in-person or remote audition.

Recommended for all applicants: Attend virtual info session.

Application and In-Person Audition

1. Fill out our application on Slideroom, which includes the following:
   • Demographic information form 
   • Dance Heritage statement
   • OPTIONAL: You may choose to share with us up to 2 work samples. These may include the following:
     • Performance solo, self-made (1 minute) 
     • Performance (1 minute)
     • Excerpt of your choreography (1 minute)  
     • Example of your dance-related research 
     • Example of your leadership in the dance field
2. Attend in-person audition
   • Includes audition, level placement, and in-person interview

Application and Remote Audition

1. Fill out our application on Slideroom, which includes the following:
   • Demographic information form 
   • Dance Heritage statement
   • 1-2 work samples. These may include the following:
     • Performance solo, self-made (1 minute) 
     • Performance (1 minute)
     • Excerpt of your choreography (1 minute)  
     • Example of your dance-related research 
     • Example of your leadership in the dance field
   • Creative Task
     • Follow instructions on Slideroom and submit your 1 minute response video
2. Schedule a virtual interview
3. Complete two Level Placement assessments via video

Financial aid granted by American University and approved external scholarships are applicable to the Dance Program. Students should consult AU's Financial Aid Office for more information. 

The Dance Program offers limited scholarship opportunities for BA Dance candidates. All BA Dance applicants will be automatically considered for scholarship funding; no additional application is required.
