Lodging

IWSM offers two types of accommodation:

  • Off-campus: local area hotels with negotiated discount rates for IWSM participants.
  • On-campus: suite-style dormitory rooms, in the same building with most IWSM events.

Local Hotels

There are multiple hotels in the neighborhood of American University, although none within a short walking distance.

The following hotels offer negotiated special rates to IWSM participants, if booked before their cutoff dates. Click the links for the special reservation page for IWSM and adjust the dates as it fits your plans. Most hotels will extend the special rate to cover one of the weekends for you to spend more time in Washington DC:

  • Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Chevy Chase Pavilion – link for IWSM
    Located directly above the Friendship Heights Metro, this all-suite hotel is one metro stop away from American University. The special rate includes a full hot American style breakfast buffet and evening manager’s reception.

    Negotiated nightly rate: $199 for 1 King 1 bedroom suite; $199 for 2 Double-beds 1 bedroom suite

  • Bethesdan Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton – link for IWSM
    Complimentary shuttle service to metro, a rooftop pool and bar, on-site restaurant FiaLova offering full breakfast buffet, dinner & cocktails, and weekly trivia nights. Breakfast is included in the special rate.

    Negotiated nightly rate: $199 for 1 King bed deluxe; $199 for 2 Queen-beds deluxe
    Special rate covers: May 29 – June 7
  • The Normandy Hotel – link for IWSM
    Charming lifestyle property in the heart of Foggy Bottom. The special rate includes breakfast and a daily complimentary Wine Hour.

    Negotiated nightly rate:  $195 for 1 King bed deluxe
    Special rate covers: May 31 – June 4
  • Churchill Hotel Dupont Circle – link for IWSM
    Historic charm blended with modern convenience. Located at the Dupont Circle near the Embassy Row. The special rate includes a complimentary daily breakfast.
    Cutoff: May 10, 2026
    Negotiated nightly rate: $199 for 1 Standard King bed; $219 for 2 Standard Double beds
    Special rate covers: June 1 – June 4; three days pre and post are available
  • Glover Park Hotel Georgetown – link for IWSM (or call 202.625.5409 and identify yourself as a member of AU Conference Group).
    Nestled at the hilltop of Georgetown and surrounded by parks, this boutique hotel invites you to experience personalized hospitality in an intimate setting. Restaurant and bar on site, but breakfast is not included in the rate.

    Negotiated nightly rate: $190 for 1 King size bed; $190 for 2 Queen size beds
    Special rate covers: May 28 – June 7

Rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes, currently 15.95%.

The listed hotels reserved blocks of rooms for our conference, but certainly, feel free to shop around at hotels.com and other booking sites.

On-Campus Lodging

This is a budget option. A block of suite-style rooms is reserved for us on campus, in the Constitution Hall itself, i.e., right above the conference events. 

Facilities and AmenitiesDouble room on East Campus; includes two beds, dressers, closets, and nightstands, and a bathroom with sink, shower, and toilet.

This residence hall has single- and double-occupancy rooms with full en-suite bathrooms. Take a 3D tour of the offered rooms!

Our secure facilities provide guests with air-conditioning, free campus-wide WiFi, complimentary linens, and a dedicated 24-hour desk staff to ensure a comfortable stay.

Guests will have access to laundry facilities, floor lounges, equipped with a kitchenette and television, as well as our three campus fitness centers. All conference guests will have access to our AU shuttle service and free Wi-Fi network, AUGuest-ByRCN.

Beds will come made up with two flat bedsheets, one pillow with pillow case, one blanket and one towel. All beds will likely be lowered by the time of the conference. Being mindful of American University’s carbon neutrality, the University does not provide travel-sized soaps in the rooms. The Federal Hall front desk, next to the Constitution Hall, will always be staffed should guests have any questions.

Reservations

The earliest arrival day is May 30, and the latest departure is June 5.

Reservations are made via Eventbrite. Accepted forms of payment are: Credit Cards, Debit Cards, Paypal, Google Pay. After the payment, the system will let you enter your arrival and departure days.

Rates

  • Single-occupancy rooms are $96/person/night ( + processing fee).
  • Double-occupancy rooms are $78/person/night ( + processing fee). If you opt to stay in a double-occupancy room, you will be staying with another IWSM attendee. Requests for roommates need to be submitted by both guests. We will work to accommodate all requests submitted by the deadline.

Cancellations and Refunds

Eventbrite allows cancellations and full refunds up to 30 days prior to your stay. The processing fees will not be returned.
