This course will explore the latest legal and regulatory developments pertaining to the use of digital technologies in the delivery of healthcare, focusing on the following keyareas of innovation: telehealth/remote patient monitoring and artificial intelligence (AI). Because these technologies and solutions are developing at a faster pace than the laws and regulations meant to address them, this area of law is dynamic and constantly evolving. Lectures and class discussions will consider the various public health motivations for, as well as the legal and regulatory challenges to, adopting and adapting digital technologies and solutions in health care, with an emphasis on reimbursement, licensing, credentialing, liability, privacy protections, and practical industry insights. The teaching strategies for this course will include readings, lecture, group discussions, and mock hypothetical exercises.

In addition to the live class time, academic credit students will be required to independently complete 2 hours of additional asynchronous material.

As the government determines or significantly influences virtually every aspect of how vaccines are developed and delivered to patients, it is critical for future legal practitioners to understand the complex and rapidly shifting framework governing biological innovation and patient access to new therapies. This course will introduce students to the broad range of legal and policy issues that impact the biopharmaceutical industry in the United States. Through reading materials, lectures, and discussions, students will explore the complex regulatory structure, focusing intensely on the major policy and legislative changes emerging in the 2025-2026 period. The course will analyze and discuss key legal and policy implications related to vaccines and vaccination, specifically addressing contemporary US policy debates: FDA Oversight and the New Regulatory Landscape, Public Health Mandates and Federalism, Vaccine Injury Compensation Modernization, Tort Liability and Warning Requirements, Access, Funding, and Cost.
