Dear AU Community,  

On Monday, July 7, and continuing for approximately two weeks, the US Army Corps of Engineers and their contractors will conduct final ground sampling as part of the last phase of restoration of the hillside adjacent to the former Public Safety Building site, located just west of the Fletcher Gate.  

The contractor will drill several bore holes into the hillside and in the asphalt along the curb to determine if additional remediation work is necessary prior to closing out the project and releasing the property back to American University. Based on the work plan and safety precautions, we anticipate this drilling will not pose a danger to or disrupt university operations. The work will be conducted during daylight hours and should be completed daily by 5 p.m. each day. We will update the university community as needed and when the work is completed.
