You are here: American University President Announcements January 30, 2026
Dear AU community,
As we approach the end of a cold and snowy week here in DC, I want to take a moment and give a special shout-out to the amazing teams of people who worked tirelessly under difficult conditions to keep the campus functioning, serve our students, and keep us all safe.
The facilities crews did an extraordinary job of clearing campus streets and sidewalks, making it possible for people to navigate campus safely. The people who prepare and serve food to our students also made a tremendous effort to be here and to do the essential work of feeding the many people who live, learn and work here. Student affairs teams supported our on-campus residents and AUPD continued their 24/7 efforts that maintain the safety of our entire campus. Thanks as well to all team members behind the scenes who supported these and other efforts to help keep us moving forward. And more broadly for our DC community, WAMU teams reported on the storm and the many news developments happening here and around the world.
On behalf of all of us at American University, I want to offer profound thanks to these heroes who represented the best of what it means to be an AU Eagle.
With gratitude and warm regards,
Jonathan R. Alger
President, American University
