I study the role of atmospheric particulate (aerosols) on the climate and human health. My research focuses on aerosols in the stratosphere (i.e. above 30,000 ft) and in the urban environment.
1) I study the impacts of stratospheric aerosols from volcanic eruptions and forest fires on the chemical composition of the atmosphere, its radiation balance, and chemistry using global climate models and satellite observations.
2) In collaboration with DC residents, I measure urban air pollution using low cost monitors across the districts.
Prior to joining American University in 2017, I was an associate research scientist at Johns Hopkins University and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. I hold a Ph.D. in Meteorology from Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany and a M.S. in Physics from the University of Genoa, Italy.
